Yam Cams - 2021

Yam Cams - Spring 2021

After mentoring Tom through 3 exhibitions and a book launch we reconnected to work on Yam Cams, alongside 3 other local artists and photographers.

Yam Cams was a photography project open to anyone, and ran in Spring 2021. Commissioned by Creative Black Country Yam Cams encouraged people of the region to take a closer look at their local environment and view it with a fresh eye.

We asked participants to submit images of any subject, taken in any format - as long as they were taken somewhere in one of the 4 Black Country boroughs - Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton.

Through involvement in the project, participants were introduced to documentary photography as an artistic practice and were shown examples of internationally known photographers who have worked in the Black Country.

The images were displayed in our online galleries and we selected a range of images for the Yam Cams photobook.

I was the Digital Content Creative for the Sandwell borough, which saw me work with local community groups to encourage participation, as well as selection and curation of the Sandwell images.

The Yam Cams instagram page can be found here and the book launch recording can be found here
